Why does tracking show return to sender?

The mail piece is being directed back to you because it was not delivered.  This could happen for many reasons, but the most common are listed below:

1. The mail is refused.  This happens a lot for Certified and Priority letters, especially if you are mailing legal documents or your recipient doesn't necessarily want to hear from you.

2. The recipient no longer lives at the address.

3. The address was bad.

Typically, there will be another status (Undeliverable as addressed, Refused, etc) that will accompany this status.
